Behavior & Home Support
Therapy Foundations works directly with parents to problem solve and find solutions to all behaviors and child conflicts. Therapy Foundations looks through the lens of cognitive control (sometimes referred to as motor regulation) to determine the core reason for a behavior. We ask the question: what’s going on inside the brain developmentally that could be causing a negative outcome?
Through our in-depth assessment process, we believe in digging deep to find the true source of every behavior because it’s only then that we can create consistent and lasting change. We then partner with parents to find "doable" solutions to their challenges at home, school and everyday life. This extra step is what sets Therapy Foundations apart from other therapies. We offer parent consultations to help you create a home environment that helps your child reach their full potential. This philosophy also empowers individuals and supports assuming competence.
To learn more about this approach, check out the book “Autism: Sensory-Movement Differences and Diversity” by Donnellan and Leary. Though the book focuses specifically on individuals with autism, the principles of cognitive control as causes of behaviors can apply across a wide variety of individuals.
