Music therapy is the use of music to accomplish an individual’s goals, from movement to communication and beyond. Music therapy isn’t the process of teaching someone how to play or sing music - rather, it’s the process of using the unique qualities of music and its effects on the brain to achieve a therapeutic goal.
Therapy Foundations uses a neurodevelopmental music therapy approach which uses music to build and strengthen neural pathways in the brain. Musical elements such as rhythm, melody, and structure activate many different areas of the brain in ways that other therapy techniques cannot. This means that music can create changes in communication, sensory integration, and the motor system because it has unique access to those areas of the brain.
Not only that, but music is also a fun way to meet therapeutic goals! We use music to activate the whole brain to grow the whole person.
